Our origins are with the Hamilton East Kiwanis Boys’ and Girls’ Club where we developed recreational, athletic, and social programs aimed at promoting self-esteem, trust, positive coping skills, and competence. Banyan continues with this tradition through Camp Maple Leaf a residential summer camp and outdoor education program that targets at risk children. At the other end of the service spectrum, Banyan has been operating our Grocer-Ease program for over 25 years. This program is specifically designed to sustain independent living situations for the elderly and infirm through regular grocery shopping services. Banyan became actively involved in early intervention for children (under the age of 12) who are at risk of becoming in conflict with the law through a community based partnership known as the Under 12 Outreach and Girls Connection Program. The purpose of this program is to reduce the risk of children becoming further involved in illegal activities by providing the children and their families with a multifaceted intervention designed to increase social competence and reduce offending behaviour. In addition, Banyan has over 30 years experience in the field of youth justice services. Our community based youth justice programs include Youth Mental Health Court Worker, Counselling and Assessment, and Youth Justice Intervention Program. Our residential programs include George R. Force Group Homes, Peninsula Youth Centre, and Arrell Youth Centre. | | | | | | |
