The
Massey Centre for Women (the “ MCW”) is an
award-winning, accredited Children’s Mental
Health Centre that is a multi-service,
non-profit, community agency located in the
east-end of Toronto. The MCW is committed to
improving the lives of disadvantaged young
women and their babies by providing programs
and services such as: supportive and
transitional housing; pre-employment
services, an on-site high school program,
counselling and primary health care. MCW is
also an Ontario Early Years Centre and
operates a Child Care Centre. All the Early
Years program and services are accessible to
families, young women and their children
living in the broader community.
Programs/Services Provided:
Pre-natal residence:
We
provide dormitory style accommodations for
up to 22 pregnant teens who are 13-21 years
old. While in residence clients have access
to pre-natal primary heath care, informal
counseling, prepared nutrition meals two (2)
times daily; parent education, life skills,
pre-natal classes, crafts and recreational
activities.
Secondary School Program:
The
Secondary School program is operated in
partnership with the Toronto District School
Board and offers a broad range of grade 9 to
12 courses for credit.
Community Program:
Upon
moving out of the Massey Centre for Women
and onto independent living, clients are
offered the continued services for a further
six months. The purpose of this program is
to help the young families find stable
housing and to offer assistance with every
aspect of community living. The workers
assist the new family unit with parenting,
relationship, employment, and other issues.
Parents and Children
Together (PACT) Community Based Resource
Centre:
The
Parents and Children Together (PACT) Centre
is a facility equipped with pre-school toys,
equipment, toy and music libraries, parent
resources and children’s books. The PACT
Centre is designed to meet the special needs
of high-risk children and families, but is
also open to all families in the community.
Formal and informal educational programs are
offered for children and parents within a
milieu of acceptance and support. Many
volunteers assist with the delivery of the
programs.
The Success by Employment
and Technology (SET) Project
The SET
Project offers computer and job skills
training for disadvantaged, high risk, young
mothers who do not have the means to enrol
and succeed in a mainstream business program
Donations Program:
The
Donations program helps low-income,
high-risk and lone parent families with
children up to 6 years to meet their basic
needs. The program assists families to
develop independence and sustain themselves
on a long-term basis in the community.
The
Donations program receives a variety of
donated goods from the community and
distributes these goods to our clients.
Goods are also distributed to the various
programs at Massey Centre.
Volunteer Services:
Volunteers are vital to the operation of
Massey Centre. The wide variety of

to match each volunteer with a placement
that best suits their interests, skills, and
needs. Positions include: labour coaching,
tutoring, parent relief, emergency respite
care, sistering/mentoring, administrative
support, reception, fundraising, special
events, recreation and crafts, infant
stimulation, nursing support, computer
