Since 1961, Sancta Maria House
has been providing a loving, caring and secure
home for young women. The service is
offered to young women aged 15 to 19 years
(under 18 at admission) who may be
experiencing family conflict, problems with
cultural adjustment, and physical, emotional
and/or sexual abuse, with a need to develop
life skills.
Sancta Maria House accommodates 7 young women
in a home environment with a recreation room,
chapel and dining room. Professional staff is
on duty 24 hours a day. The emphasis is on
teaching life skills, and independent living
skills with supportive counselling. Residents
attend school or work and share household
chores such as cooking and cleaning.
Volunteers participate in the House program.
The funding is from the Ministry
of Community and Social Services.
Quinn House, established in 1988,
provides affordable rental accommodation for 4
young women aged 18 to 22. There is a live-in
coordinator. Residents attend school or work and
do their own shopping and meal preparation.
Admission is not confined to Sancta Maria House
Residents. Funding is from Share Life/Catholic
Charities.
Aftercare services are available
to help former residents become established in
the community, and to assist in learning the
community network of support services.
